Emerald Museum & Nobelius Heritage Park

Nobelius catalogue cover

The Emerald Museum records historical data related to the district for future generations.

We collect and preserve artefacts, photos, family history, news paper cuttings, community organisations, and publications from the 1850’s until present day 2012.

The displays provide a historical context for understanding the life in which our early pioneers lived; we also recognise many of our past community volunteers.

The Museum also houses the 'Writers of the Dandenongs' exhibit, which commemorated well-known Australian literary figures who settled in or wrote about the Dandenong's in the early 20th century. Other major themes include gold discovery in Emerald, timber, horticulture, transport (rail and bullock), and guest houses.

Emerald Museum interiorSpecial themes are developed to reflect current events. The Museum archive contains original ledgers, stock records, catalogues and wages books from the Nobelius Nursery.

Other records include minutes, correspondence and administrative documents of local community and sporting organisations, as well as over two thousand photographs of early Emerald, Clematis, Avonsleigh and Macclesfield.
